[tag]Sri Harmandir Sahib[/tag] aka [tag]Sri Darbar Sahib[/tag]

The [tag]Golden Temple[/tag], located in [tag]Amritsar[/tag], is the most sacred [tag]shrine [/tag]in [tag]Sikhism [/tag]and was built in 1601 A.D. The temple has entrances from 4 directions and is surrounded by a large pool of holy water. It is a place of both stupendous beauty and sublime peacefulness, especially at night.
The temple complex houses large dharamshalas (hostels) and a langar (Free Kitchens) which serve delicious food. At any time, one can see scores of people praying, meditating or taking a dip into the holy water. The whole place is run by volunteers who assist in making and serving food, water, etc. as well as cleaning and maintaining the place.
