Shorter days, longer nights and lots of sneezing
So, what season is it right now in Toronto?
Autumn? No. Winter? No!! Its the “fall-sick” season. People are taking days off, sitting home and drenching paper tissues (called ‘kleenex’ here, after the popular brand) in slimy body fluids that seem to flow eternally through their nostrils. There are plenty of coughs, sneezes, headache and body pain to go with the kleenex-drenching ritual. Looming over all of us is the risk of H1N1 pandemic, and indeed people are spending hours in queues outside hospitals to get a shot of the experimental H1N1 vaccine (they should rather call it “anti”-H1N1 vaccine, right?). Thankfully I haven’t indulged in this sport yet, (“Touch wood” – you are supposed to say that to ward off bad energy (or something like that)) but I do think that it would be wise to buy some Kleenex stock (pun intended).
Meanwhile I’m photographing the Sun who now wants to hang out in the southern hemisphere (probably because its summer there.)
I often have classes at night, from 19:00 to 22:00. I remember coming home from summer classes in clear day light, but now I have to bike with my lights ON even when I am going to the class. Today, the sun rose at 7:05 and set at 17:05, what a short sun run (and it only gets worse!).
Meanwhile in some good news, Toronto is all set to host the 2015 Pan American games (and that will hopefully connect the airport by a subway line!)

Beautiful Picture and yes, I hope you didn’t just jinx yourself.
Thanks Vamsee, no not yet!
Flu shot! I always get a regular flu shot every year, since I have already learned my lesson a few years back. It saves me from lost days, and given my schedule, I cannot afford to lose some if I can avoid it.
Thankfully have never taken flu shot and I think I don’t need to until few more years.
Falling sick is not fun! I feel lucky that I’ve never had the flu.
As for the setting of the sun, it’s the same here in Sweden. It sets before 5pm and the days only get shorter and shorter. In the winter, the sun sets as early as 4pm. (Sometimes I miss those long summer evenings.) This time of year is rather cosy though.
Thank god I too never had flu yet and hope I never do in the future either…!
You should fly with Sun to the southern hemisphere
. “I believe I can fly!”.
Back in India there was no significant difference in seasons. I had problems adjusting to short to winter days here. It was quite depressing. But over the years, I have learned to appreciate all the seasons here.
There is always summer after every winter … and I love the winter because it brings the lovely Christmas market and hot gluewine.
HAHAHA, good one, maybe I will!
Hey I love the glintwien, I should make some, I have cheap red wine that I didn’t like.
Best of luck

I should be able to edit my comments long after I have posted it. No?
Edit your comments long after you have posted, eh? That’s too big a demand!
I cant demand, I can request
.
I would be nice to clean your comment when you accidently left a typo in there. May be a preview before posting could also be of help …lets take it offline
It actually starts setting at 4:30… crazy!
Like you, I often have classes from 5:30 to 8:30, right after work. I see the sunlight like once every three days right now!
Oh yeah Ottawa is further east, yikes! Byebye sun!
Gorgeous pic!!! trees are barren, but it feels like a ‘fall color’ pic, cos of the glowing sun.
i do love the sun, even the 40 degrees it gets to in India (of course, one cribs but still). Snow and a warmfire place are interesting and romantic in books and in the mind.
For sure, its essential to make the most of the seasons so that we fully enjoy them!!
