Queen West Art Crawl (QWAC)
I live in a neighborhood (Queen st. West) that is quite artsy (it has some shady areas too). Last weekend, we had the 7th annual QWAC, an art festival. It was pretty interesting – there was one central festival area and two satellite locations. Also about three dozen or more art galleries, tiny boutiques and studios on the street opened their doors to visitors who, thanks to the beautiful weather, showed up in large numbers.

There was some good street music and entertainment along narrow lanes lined with booths of approximately 500 artists. I refrained from taking pictures of the actual exhibits since I am opposed to doing that. Parks, galleries, cafes, retail and design shops and studios on Queen Street West, touted as among the hippest street in Canada, got into the act with superb art exhibitions and activities.

Overall it was a great day – apart from spending a couple of hours checking out the exhibits and ‘window shopping’, it was good to find enjoyable weather. Such festivals make the place lively… something that’s going to decrease as fall draws closer… Equinox was yesterday.

Art Crawl eh? This makes me think what is it that people find fascinating about the act of crawling? I would like to believe that it is an act that the human evolution decided to discard which then separated them from the earlier hominids, but then there are certain activities like getting drinks in a series of bars, and now, even admiring and perhaps buying art, that necessitates crawling. I wonder what that means.
↵I also giggled when I read that title. Perhaps they mean crawl in a different way: You need to spend lot of time looking at the exhibits, so you are moving slow, as if you are crawling.
↵Priyank, live Graffiti wow I didn’t know that they would have display for it, I thought it was illegal, but I guess it is illegal on the public properties. They destroyed our playground once with bad words all over. It took lot of work to restore all. Thanks for sharing your picks, cool stuff going on in Toronto, and I don’t even know it. Anna
↵Oh that sucks, I guess graffiti is an art but people often abuse it because they think its “fun”. Some public spaces on my street are covered in graffiti, and I admit, it looks pretty compared to grey-black cement walls. Good to see you here!
