‘Toronto Tuesday‘ is a weekly photo feature about random stuff (landmarks, people, culture, seasons, etc.) in the city.
Bike Stands
City of Toronto has a good infrastructure for cyclists. Off-street bicycle racks like these are present every few meters on most (if not all) sidewalks in downtown Toronto.

Bike Racks. It says ‘Lock Bicycle’ and ‘City of Toronto’
This is the standard post-and-ring bike stand. But then it starts getting creative! …

Bike Lock. Looks like ugly lamp posts, no?

What’s that, a lightbulb?
Bike theft is very common in Toronto. People spend a fortune ($50, or $100, or…) on a good lock.

From spectacles to bicycles

A scary monster face?
Just like any other parking facility, it becomes impossible to find a bike parking spot during summer!

My personal favorite!
There are several ‘bike rack sculptures’ in my neighborhood (Parkdale / Queen west). All these pictures are taken from places less than two minutes from my apartment. I hope you liked them.

Never heard of bike stands before and the variety in them. The locks are very creative.
Very well captured and presented
Hi Rajesh, welcome to my blog and thanks for the comment!
Wow! This is much more creative than anything I saw in bicycle-crazy Amsterdam!
Interesting. Do they have separate bicycle lanes too?
Hi Gopinath, yes there are bike lanes on many streets. But the city has major plans to put lanes on virtually every major route. Its nice!
like yr sense of observation even more
hehe, thanks Lakshmi
Hi Priyank! Amazing bike stands! Much more creative than the usual ones…
Blogtrotter is showing you Brasilia. Enjoy and have a great long Easter weekend!
Thanks Trotrer!
This is really cool! Haven’t ever seen anything like them before. I remember the ones in India (a long time back when people actually went to work on bicycles), but they were small semicircles rising from the ground.
Ah, Shantanu, I remember those rings too! I’ve seen them in few places here.
Very interesting and creative! Funny I never noticed them when I was there, but then again, I was only there for a day-trip, not enough to sink the city into my system.
LIW, so maybe its time to visit!
Interesting, liked it
Thanks!
Very cool racks, should take a look at something like these for the mall.
Bob do you have such in your town too?
We have bike stands here in Manchester too but they are very rare and not so creative.
Nice pictures!
Thanks Amit. Most bicycle stands in Toronto are pretty simple too, but my neighborhood is particularly artsy.
Definitely liked the post. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Erica!
@ Priyank : Nice stands. We have separate lanes for bicycles but no bicycle stands like this yet. Although this being India, it seems no one uses those bicycle lanes
haha, the fact that bike lanes exist is a big thing in itself!
That was a really nice series of pictures on bike racks. Didn’t realize Toronto was this big in biking…what with all that winter weather. This puts California to shame.
Thanks Vamsee. Bike season is very dominant from early spring to late fall, thats almost 7 months. Some people bike even during winter (non snow periods), but I don’t because it gets too squishy on the street… !
