Machu Picchu
One of the wonders of the world and an icon of Incan prosperity, Machu Picchu is an architecturally endowed city miraculously built on top of a mountain. I am watching the Condor-shaped construction from the adjacent hill - Huayna Picchu. Probably one of the highlights of my travels...

Toronto Tuesday: 01.09

Volume 1, Edition 9

‘Toronto Tuesday‘ is a weekly photo feature about random stuff (landmarks, people, culture, seasons, etc.) in the city.

Streetcar siding

Toronto Streetcar siding

Toronto streetcar (tram) system is among the largest systems in North America. This streetcar siding (parking) station is located at north west corner of Queen Street West and Roncesvalles Avenue, few blocks from where I live.

Toronto tram parking

I am getting increasingly attracted towards desaturated images – b&w, sepia, etc. So I’ve posted the same image in a different way.

So, which picture did you like more?

Nice picture. I believe that Toronto’s system is one of the largest systems in North America because the other systems were obliterated, unlike in Europe where almost every city has a streetcar system. Ever heard of the Great American streetcar scandal?

And the car companies now beg the government for money. I wish a new movement would start to bring public transport back. Thanks LIW!

The only time I sat in a ‘tram’ is in Amsterdam. There are many Mumbaites of the older generation who wistfully get nostalgic about the trams in Mumbai.

Nice pictures. To me, whether sepia works or not depends on the subject. In this case, bright night city lights must be vibrant, hence I opt for the first!

Mahendra, I prefer the colored one too, it looks more lifelike and real like you said. When I was in Kolkata last year, I did travel on a tram!

I generally like sepia and B&W pictures, but in this case I prefer the first. The bright colors of the night are striking. Well captured!
